Frequently Asked Question

What is this site about?

ChocolateForDogs.com is a writer's community, dedicated to helping writers build readership and work on their craft.  Our goal is to give writers of any background, style, or genre another venue to get their works out to the public.

How much does it cost?

Nothing at all!  As of this moment, at least, there's no fee, no "premium" services, no cost to the reader or the writer.  As the site grows, there may be a time in the future where this changes, but that's not on the drawing board anytime soon.

How do I become a ChocolateForDogs.com author?

Simple: first, register for a "normal" user account; that'll let you do other stuff as well, like post in the forums and send private messages to other users.  Once you've registered, you should see a link for "Author Registration Request".  Click that and fill out the form.  We'll get your information and review it (just to make sure you're not a spam bot of some kind, basically).  Then we'll get you set up with an Author page and you can start submitting!

What Can I Submit?

Anything at all!  Well, within reason.  The main criteria is that it's your own work, and that you're not spamming the site with junk about Viagra or low-cost prescriptions.  Product reviews, short stories, long stories, software tutorials, poetry, op/ed, essays, pretty much anything goes!  Still not sure?  No problem -- send us a message via the feedback page and ask!

How does the submission process work?

When you've been accepted as an author, you'll have another link available that lets you submit your works.  On that page, you fill out information about your submission -- the title, category, etc. -- and you can upload your submission as a plain text file, rich text file, PDF, or Word document.  We'll review it for content (basically to make sure you're not trying to submit something illegal or anything like that), and maybe make some edits.  If we do edit it, we'll communicate those changes with you to make sure you approve of it.  We may go back and forth on this a couple of times as necessary (and most likely via email, not just through the forms on the site).  Once we're both happy with the submission, we'll post it.

Why do I have to upload it?  Can't I just enter it in a form on the site?

The site's still new, so we're working out details on getting a better workflow in place.  That would be a much better way of handling it, but all in due time ;)

Do I get paid for my submissions?

At this time, we're not able to set anything like that up.  We're just barely getting started, so there's no way we could afford anything like that.  However, that is one of the goals we have planned for the site, and we'll implement that as soon as we can.

Do I keep the rights to my works?

By all means, yes!  When you submit, you're granting us a non-exclusive license to display your content.  We'll take it down whenever you request it, and you can post it anywhere else (as long as that site's terms allow it).

How can I help?

First off, by becoming an author and submitting your content!  If you're not so inclined, however, look for links to make donations, or even just click on an ad or two ;)

How can I advertise my own products/services/whatever on here?

Send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with information -- we'll try and get more details up soon, but you can still contact us if you like.
